[Back to School]

Fact: I got my Associates Degree in High School back in 2006.
Yes, I did.  I started taking classes in High School for a Degree in Computer Science. I went through commencement, and everything.  And THEN I graduated from High School.

Fact: Because I had a degree coming out of High School, I got really really good jobs.
In fact, I started making more than most college graduates made.  I worked technical support ballparking in the $40,000 a year area.  Because of this I worked full time, and school for the most part hasn't been a priority.

Fact: I DID try to continue school... I promise I did.
I was a CS major at BYU for a while, and the classes scared me, so I switched to IT, which required me to be on campus for certain labs, which wasn't kosher with the full schedule I had while working.  I've tried to take classes every semester for the last couple semesters, but due to schedule conflicts, I withdrew after a couple weeks.  I even switched to Photography at UVU.  I have changed my major one last time.

Fact: UVU screwed things up.
I'm putting this here because it makes sense in the timeline, but I'll explain it later because I didn't find out about it till later.  Just know that I took classes back in the winter semester of this year, (2010) and withdrew cause I ended up not having a job beginning of February....

Fact: I had an epiphany.
My Epiphany is a couple parts.  1. I wanted a full ceremony.  I didn't care what degree I got, I just wanted to be able to say I graduated, and dress up one more time.  2.  After thinking a bit more about what I wanted to do someday I came up with this ultimate goal - Work for the FBI/CIA/NSA in Cybersecurity/Information Researcher.  I'm good at finding things... or people.  I'm good with searches and the internet.  This required me to go back to a Computer related degree from Photography.  I like photography, but its my CS degree that has been funding the equipment.  Hence, why, as of today, I'm now a student in Information Technology -Emphasis in Network Administration and Security.

Fact: UVU Screwed things up.
ok, now back to this.  Back in January, I set myself up on the payment plan for tuition and was taking several CS classes.  Due to the loss of my job, my payment plan deposit check never went through.  I received an email that described that "your classes will be dropped" yadda yadda, logged in to withdraw and found my classes already withdrawn. And went on with life thinking that I wasn't in classes, till I logged on the system at the beginning of last month to find I had 2 E's and a full semester of payments to pay.  WTH?!

Fact: No one at UVU knows what they're doing.
I was passed around from Cashiers, to Collections, to registration, to registrar.  Where I told my sad story and they said: "Oh, well, I can't change anything, maybe so and so can."  The registrar finally told me what I had to do.  1. Call my professors and have them change my grades from E to UW (Unofficial Withdrawl) 2. Petition for Academic Policy to change them to W.  3. Petition to get a refund on the tuition. Then I can sign up for classes.

Fact: Patti Miner is awesome.
I went to go see my academic advisor, and she walked me through the classes that my CS degree covers and what I still have to do.  I have 23 classes left for core, and 1 GE.  (the Super advanced technical writing class English 2310 BLECH)

Fact: I need an Internship to graduate
Remember the part where I work a real world job already? My company offers internships, but Patti believes that this could count as my internship.

Fact: I will probably inadvertantly be a full time student this next semester.
My schedule looks like this thus far:
MW  1:00 - 2:15  INFO 1510 - Intro to System Administration-- Unix/Linux.  (3)
TTH  4 - 5:15      INFO  2050 - Database Fundamentals (3)

and another class that I haven't decided if I'm taking Wednesday or Saturday...
W 5:30 - 8:00 INFO 1120  Information  Systems and technology Fundamentals
S  10:30 - 1:15 "         "                            "                            "

I've set up with my manager to work the 5 am to 1 pm shift.    And if the internship counts with my job... I'm taking 12 credit hours with only 9 of work.  :)

Fact: There are several classes I'm looking forward to taking
INFO 3660  - Information Security - Network Defense &countermeasures
INFO 3800 - Computer Forensics & Cybercrime
LEGL 3020 - CyberLaw

And, I can take DGM 2320 - Digital Photography and Compositing for an elective for my major!

I will be going back to school full time, for the first time since winter 2007, and I'm scared to death.... cause this time I'm working full time too.

Good luck to me.

P.S. Check out my 101 in 1001  and see how I'm doing!

Well, I found a custodial job for Danny and Chris that pays alot, and starts at 5-8am so, we'll all be getting good sleep.

Plus, for a year, I was waking up at 5:20 every morning to go to work by 6. and was hanging out with Cory till 2 anyway... I can survive :)
