[Helaman Halls]
I moved out. Its Summer of '06. Bryan and Weston had just left on their missions.
I moved in, with a meal plan, and an internship as a job. I was taking 2 classes. I moved in originally with a roommate. Alli.
"so I've moved into the dorms.. Lucky me. I have one of the best people ever for a roomate. So today went kind of uneventful. I've actually met a bunch of guys. Be proud of me guys... my bishop is so funny. And the counselors... I'm so really lucky. They are all such great teachers.. One of them reminds me of bro. Pratt...
So today, they pulled us out of sunday school to get our pictures and to have us fill out some forms.. and they pulled us out in groups of like 10. well when the next group of ten came, there were 4 of us left from our group of ten who still had to get our pictures taken. so the bishop was like all you old ones get into the office so I can talk to these new ones. So I went in, and saw a WHITEBOARD. and with out a thought, drew the backside of an elephant. and wrote cute elephant underneath it. and no one had any idea who drew it in the bishops office. Well I had to go back for an interview later this afternoon, and my elephant was still there! Apparently one of the stake people commented on it and said it looked like a democrat. lol! And its still up there. I don't have any clue just how much longer it will be up there. but apparently it will be up there for a while."
(What's funny is the first comment on the post left by Christer, (who was mentioned in my BYU post) - you can say hello to my brother Karl, who's going to be living in DT this fall, if you're still living in oncampus housing in the fall. He's on facebook now.... FORSHADOWING!!!!! )
Anyways... Allie had requested a private room, and they didn't have one available, but 3 days in, one down the hall opened up so they transferred her, so I was left with a double room all to myself... Which didn't help me not be messy.
Helaman halls had 3 floors, and each floor had 2 sections. You had to cross the stairwell to get to the other side. There was a group bathroom, but there was a vanity in each room. I became good friends with the girls on the floor, but I'll get to them in a minute.
My first day in the Cannon Center, (the equivalent of the Morris Center) I met someone:
"So I met a guy named chris, saturday at breakfast, and saw him again at church, and we became really good friends. Well, I looked him up in the byu directory and it had his cell phone number there, so I was like.. cool, I'll call and see if he wants to hang out. Well I called and this lady picked up, and I was like "chris?" in a very feeble voice... and then found out that it was his home phone, and I was talking to his mom.
Sheesh. Well after calling his cell, (his mom gave it to me) I went and hung out with him in budge hall on the piano for like 2 hours, and we played pool and stuff. It was so much fun."
And we actually did become pretty good friends during the semester. He left on his mission shortly after.
This was us... the 3200 girls. I'm the one on the left with the laptop... the description of the picture is this:
"just to clear things up, kenz has the lunchables and vending machine food, chels is doing her hip jiration thing she likes to do with her ipod, ness has big chunky jewelry and is dancing on the pole, janae is sleeping cuz she is a grandma, she also has a camera. i am studying cuz thats like all i did in the summer, lauren is borrowing money, laura is on her computer, beth is naked, and maddie is peeing her pants, but i now think that title should be given to nessa"
If that doesn't give you a clue as to what went on on that floor, I don't know what will... Here's everyone in real life minus me, and Lauren.. (I took the picture)
The person I got really close with was beth... The blonde bottom left. Beth lived across the hall, but spent more time in my room. She was talented beyond belief.. (She's also married now and has twins. ) She was half engaged to this soundtrack writer in Texas.... long story.
She pretty much sang, and I would accompany her on the piano in the lobby, and that's how our friendship began. But due to the messiness of her roommate, she lived in my room.
"Oh.. I need to tell you guys about beth. Beth is my totally-my-roomate-but-living-in-another room roomate. Alli, my first roomate, ordered a single room before she came here, and then 3 days into the semester, one opened up, so she moved out, leaving me with my own room and room..mate.. less. (think hercules... "you were supposed to convince the river guardian.... and here I am river... guardian...-less.")"
She was the girl I always wished I could be. She kind of took me under her wing while I was there. Think Elpheba and Glinda... I was the ugly green one. She was wacky, popular, beautiful, and had the guys running after her, and I was secluded, shy but loud, geek who had a printer that everyone wanted to use. ( She was known though, for going to the bathroom in her underwear, and then getting herself locked out of her room. )
"She was really really loopy the other night. Like really.. and she decided to try and find something to do at 11:30, and was trying to take me with her. Well, after she hooked up with a couple guys.. me thinking that they'll knock some sense into her, that its monday, and there's nothing open at 11:30, and there's school on tuesday.. I went back upstairs to my dorm. Well, 3:30 am, I get a phone call on my cell.. (I'm sleeping, just minding my own business, when my phone starts to ring, and I am suddenly out of my bed wandering around my room looking for my cell, which as soon as I became aware of my situation, didn't even realize was ringing.) it was beth, and she was calling to tell me that she was locked out. and I relaxed and was like.. you're more than welcome to sleep in my room... (she's done that before when her laundry has taken over her bed) and she's like.. no babe.. I'm locked outside the building. and I was like.. you mean I have to get up.. and she's like yep. So at 3:30 in the morning. I am leaving my dorm, to walk down 3 flights of stairs, to open the door, to ask where the heck did she go, to spend the last 4 hours... and of all the answers.... she found A BONFIRE.
an outside note here, I think this situation is utterly hilarious. she was really loopy to the point where, when we were outside the sports camp hall, and guys were whistling at us, she was like "I think I'm the first thing with ovaries that they've seen in a long time."
One day, however, she decided to pull a makeover on me. I don't think we have any pictures of it.. But this lead to a funny story. She pulled a makeover, and we wandered over to Heritage Halls to show me off. On the way, we found one of the Campus Kitties... Which we took home, and kept it in the empty closet. For 5 days. I think she named it TJ. I think. Half the floor knew about it, they'd come play with it... they tried to keep it secret from the RA. In the end, we had to get rid of it (it moved to the boys dorm :P) and signs got posted all over the dorms saying no pets were allowed....
During this time, is where I gained all my weight. I figured it better to eat pop tarts in my room than make use of the meal plan and eat real food. I stayed in my room for the most part. This was also the semester I met Karl, (My internet boyfriend) I wish I had kept more track of the things I did this semester... I didn't do alot.. I was still pretty shy, still, I made a huge effort to expand my bubble, and be more social... For my first semester out of the house... I think I did pretty well.
P.S. Check out my 101 in 1001 and see how I'm doing!
