[Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World]

Haha.. the guy in the opening picture has hair that looks like Cory.  Unfortunately, Kristen was the one who pointed that out first, so I can't take credit for it.

Last night, I went to see Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World. I was apprehensive about the movie, but seeing Cory's joy for it, I trusted that it would be pretty good.  What I didn't expect was how funny, epic, and utterly awesome it was.  Its one of my favorites.

Baseline is this:
Boy (Scott Pilgrim)
and
Girl (Ramona Flowers)

Meet

Decide to start dating

Requiring him to beat up all 7 of her evil ex's

Like thus:

Its not normal fighting, its cartoonish, Anime, live action fighting.

Several things made this movie great.

1. Cory.

Cory just kind of set the stage for this one.  He'd been reading the graphic novel, and having us play the video game for a while now, and seeing him bouncing around in his seat, with a grin on his face when epic things happened in the movie, was almost as epic, and hilarious as the movie.

2. Graphic Novel Format

The movie came from a graphic novel. And if there ever was a movie you could watch and think, this is a graphic novel, it was this.
the cuts between scenes, the way people react, words in the background, and split screens was a style that I enjoyed watching.

3. Video Game References
This game appealed to my gamer side.  Everything was a gamer reference.  If you watch the video above, it showed the lovely "vs" at the beginning of the fight.   The whole movie is a video game.  At the beginning, the Universal Logo was pixilated like an 8-bit game, and the Universal Theme played at Video Game music.

There was zelda  music, and Final fantasy music.  Other game music I recognized, but didn't know.

4. Humor
EVERYTHING, not somethings, but EVERYTHING was hilarious.  You could see Cory bouncing in his seat and Kristen laughing so hard, she was probably crying, just as I was.  The theater wasn't full, infact there maybe was 10 people total in the whole theater, and the sound of laughter from everyone resonated through out the room.   Things that aren't normally funny, were hilarious. And I'm not sure why.  Its a lighthearted movie.

I'm sad that this movie isn't more mainstream.   It was really good, and I'd love to see it in theaters over and over and over again.

However, this movie is not for you if you have problems with Gay people, Scandalous Underwear, and the occasional swearword.

I lesbian this movie :D

P.S. Check out my 101 in 1001  and see how I'm doing!

This, in my opinion, was one of the best movies I've seen in a long time. The sheer nerdgasm of all the video game references was more than enough for me to love it.
Nice blog :)
