[Buried]
Yesterday, I was invited over to Cory's to game. The idea was to have several gaming people show up and we'd all game.... the problem was, no one else but me showed up.
First of all, Axis and Allies is a GREAT game. 2 new versions of the game have come out, A&A Pacific, and more recently A&A Europe, which you can combine the 2 boards, and have a massive grand scale A&A game, much bigger than the original full world game. Unfortunately, The pieces for the UK and the US in both games look the same, and can be mixed up.
When I arrived at Cory's he was marking his pieces with a silver sharpie, and still had a ways to go. The idea to begin with, was to watch a movie while we waited. I climbed into his Doughnut of a beanbag, and after being given the choice, I selected 'The Fourth Kind", a movie I'd been wanting to see, but hadn't had a chance yet.
The movie was about unexplained evidence and alien abductions. After watching that movie, I started sending off a slew of questions to Cory, asking what he knew, and trying to get more information. Getting a smug look on his face, he said, "I don't know if I should do this to you," And proceeded to load up a History Channel Documentary called "Ancient Aliens" about the possibility of ancient civilizations having contact with Alien races, much like a Stargate type story.
I was thrilled. I hadn't seen anything like this in a long time. Unfortunately, he remembered the things that catch my interest, and had a "I knew it" look on his face, as mine changed to reflect joy.
Why hadn't I seen something like this in a while? I had books, documents, bookmarks, for unexplained mysteries, great wonders of the world, alien abductions, conspiracy theories etc. This was a topic, that I was SO interested in, and yet had done nothing for months about it? Why not?
It had been buried. I don't know when, but, I buried parts of me deep down, when I became my guarded cautious self. Somewhere, I took aspects of myself, ones that right now, *I* think make me pretty cool, and pushed them deep inside. Gaming, on a large scale, has been pushed down. I haven't played many video games in months, just when others want to. And yet, part of me was unleashed when I was at PAX last week. My technogeek side is reemerging, as is my desire to become more political and engaged in world history. I can't believe I removed these aspects of myself, just to make me seem more normal.
And who knows what else I've buried. **headdesk**
P.S. Check out my 101 in 1001 and see how I'm doing!
