[My Next Big Adventure]

My boyfriend Chris, is a teacher.  His goal in life is to teach choir. He likes to teach other things, and he's really good at it. He gets this fascination with watching people learn, its so endearing.  When we were at disneyland, he wanted to be RIGHT there as I saw EVERYTHING.  He videoed me in the tower of terror and watched my face during Soaring over California.  He will show me things, and wait to watch my face light up with understanding.  If there's anyone out there I can say the song "I can show you the world" applies to, its Chris.

As Chris is also big into band,   Chris marched with the BYU Marching band for a couple years, and the Orem High Marching band.  Combine this with teaching, and you get someone who ALSO taught the Orem High Marching Band for a couple years, AND Drum Major for the BYU Marching Band.   (Yes, that's Chris in the front on this picture.)

Besides Teaching and Music, if I were to say that Chris has a special passion, its Drum Corps.(or body for life...)  When I first starting hanging out with him it was Drum Corps this and Drum Corps that.       Its Marching Band without woodwinds on an INSANE level. These are non school affiliated groups from different states, marching because they want to, with kids aging 14-22.

When Chris was in high school, he joined up with a Drum Corps group called Seattle Cascades.
Every year,  during the summer, they travel all over the country, performing and competing every other day, till they get to the world Championships.  They sleep on the floor in Gyms in high schools in the states they perform in, and shower in locker rooms.

This was one of his shows.   And when the music seems to get loud... its REALLY REALLY LOUD.

And that's where Chris is right now.  Except, he's not marching... he's teaching.   They gave him a bunch of 14-22 year olds and told him to teach them how to play brass fit for World Class DCI.  He has been teaching for years! He taught with the Santa Clara Vanguard back in like '01 and '03. As of right now, they're in California, and the tour will take them up around through Arizona, through Texas, to Florida, up to New York, and down around to Indiana for the championships, which is where I am going to hook up with him to see the finals.

The above video... its EPICALLY AWESOME...

My next adventure, is to fly out to Indianapolis on the 12-14th for the DCI World Championships. I shall leave on the 11th, and get there early on the 12th, (My flight goes from SLC to Phoenix, to North Carolina, to Indianapolis.)   The current plan, hopefully, if all works out, is to have it be a one way flight.  I will, upon arrival set up camp in the cook truck, helping to manage food for the Corps, in exchange for potentially a staff pass to get in and watch the shows for free, and a ride home on the buses.  I'll be sleeping on the floor in a gym, and showering in the locker room with all the other girls.  I'll get the full Drum Corp experience.... minus the travel... and I'm extremely excited. :D

This is my next big adventure.

P.S. Check out my 101 in 1001  and see how I'm doing!

hmmm... i played snare drum in high school (Elko, NV). I briefly thought about playing at BYU (mostly to try for free tuition), but I never would have been able to live it down. People make fun of me enough already.

I so want to do that. I am trying to save money to get out to Indiana for Championships and trying to cordinate with the Blue Knights to let me help in exchange for free admission to championships. Good luck. You will love it.
